DESCRIPTION:Join Autism United of Wisconsin as we partner with the WJ Niederkorn Library to offer FREE fun\, interactive sensory playtimes! The sensory playtime program is set up as a variety of tactile\, sensory activity stations where children (under 13 years old) are free to explore with their caregiver. Each month there is a different theme. Stations may include shaving cream\, sand\, water\, and/or food items. Dress to make a mess. \nResearch shows sensory play supports children in their brain development\, language development\, gross and fine motor skills\, as well as improving their ability to socially interact. Stop by for a little while of stay the whole time. Registration recommended\, but not required. DESCRIPTION:It’s never too early to learn to love art! Decorate a frame to hang on a window and turn the world outside into your own museum. Then join in the sing-alongs at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. This program is designed especially for visitors ages five and under (with an adult). \nAutism United of Wisconsin will be bringing a limited number of Sensory Bags for families to borrow if necessary as well as providing materials for a Quiet Space during the event. Feel free to stop by Autism United of Wisconsin table to say hi and learn about the services we offer! \nParking\nAccess the Museum’s underground parking from Michigan St. or Lincoln Memorial Dr. (rates start at $6). Find more parking in Museum Center Park\, directly west of the Museum\, or at the War Memorial Center lot\, north of the Museum on Lincoln Memorial Dr. (rates vary). Metered parking on city streets is free on Sundays. \nPublic Transportation\nMCTS bus route 14 has two stops one block west of the Museum. SUMMARY:Bike Camp
DESCRIPTION:Success in learning to ride a bicycle is a major accomplishment for attendees and builds confidence and an improved self-image. Nothing is more inspiring than seeing a group of bike camp participants ride a conventional bike completely independently. By the end of the five day camp\, over 80 percent of riders learn to ride their bikes completely independently. \niCan Bike Camp\, a collaboration between i Can Shine and Autism United of Wisconsin\, uses a fleet of adapted bicycles\, a specialized instructional program and trained staff members to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a bike. Riders attend their scheduled 75-minute session at the same time each day for five consecutive days (M – F). All participants are physically assisted and encouraged by two volunteer “spotters” throughout the duration of the one-week camp. \nAs the camp progresses\, the adapted bike is adjusted to gradually introduce more instability in an effort to challenge riders at their own individual pace. Participants will receive a bike helmet individually sized for them\, and t-shirt. The week concludes with a touching and inspiring award ceremony! \n  \nClick here to register
